"Timothy," a caller into talk radio giant Rush Limbaugh's nationally syndicated program on Monday, pressed the host on why he hasn't yet endorsed presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
After thanking Limbaugh for the opportunity to speak, he said, "I believe it's time for the all-knowing, all-seeing Rushbo, the omniscient one, to come out and endorse Trump, who is the presumptive Republican nominee ... I think if you were to endorse him, it would most assuredly guarantee his election."
In response—and quoting Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton—the talk radio host asked, "What difference does it make now?"
"He needs your endorsement," the caller said. "It's that important, and it's about time you did it."
Tongue firmly planted in cheek, Limbaugh noted the primary process was still technically underway—pointing out that U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) had just won delegates last week in Oregon. "Timothy" wouldn't let it go, though, and insisted upon an explanation for why the talk radio host hasn't made an endorsement yet.
Limbaugh said his endorsement would be a "moot point" at this stage in the nominating process. He said he never endorses during the primary season, and he's never made a big deal about it in the past.
"I don't live under any kind of delusions here that people are going to make up their minds on these serious things just because I happen to tell people who I'm for," he said. "I think endorsing Trump at this stage is like an, 'Oh, really? Where you been? So what?' It's not what I do."
